Jack's Legacy - Ottavian Year

In the early 1960s, the watch industry had its own arms race to create the world's first automatic chronograph; the competitors were Breitling,Tag Heuer Autavia ISOGRAPH replica, TAG Heuer, Buren-Hamilton, Seiko and Zenith. The theme of buying vintage watches for investment becomes very complicated and requires a lot of knowledge to make, you can call it an informed purchase. These retro-products are increasingly in short supply and have limited information about them. The 2446 was one of the earliest Autavia models with the first execution dial and the second executive hand. The movement inside was a hand-wound Valjoux 72, which was tested and tested by many brands at the time. It was introduced in 1969 with an 11-caliber automatic chronograph.

In the 1960s, in all of the TAG Heuer chronographs of the 1970s and 1980s, the Autavia collection received the most attention and received the highest premiums in the auction. The first version of Autavia 2446 is probably the purest. These early examples have some different differences from later models, including the first execution pointer, which is not characterized by the lume contained in the center of the hand, but is flat and completely covered in the luminescent material. Early models used very large sub-dials and were a distinguishing mark between these rare early references and later more common references.

Another fascinating fascination is the use of Arabic numerals 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 around the 12-hour auxiliary register at 6 o'clock. The dial is marked with a radium hour and twelve on the top, above the brand logo. For experienced Autavia enthusiasts, the screw-in casing is another easy-to-differentiate difference compared to later compressor casings. With such diverse details and rich history, as well as the increased availability of rare vintages on the market today, it's no wonder why prices continue to rise with interest and demand.

In response to a high interest in the Autavia collection, Tag Heuer will launch the Autavia Cup in 2017; publicly voted to re-release the historic Autavia chronograph. The public chooses to refer to 2446 MKIII 'Rindt'. This fully demonstrates the current respect and appreciation of the Autavia market and Tag Heuer for its past and long-term collectors. This possibility creates another interest and value for the original work, which is of course possible, only time will prove.
